In the heart of Bryanston, the story of the Royal Learning Academy began with a vision that grew into a flourishing reality. Founded by Chey Aucamp and her mother, Gwen Cloete, the school emerged from a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of early learning and the aspiration to prepare young minds for a future filled with boundless possibilities.

Opening Our Doors in 2014

In 2014, RLA opened its doors to welcome its very first cohort of young learners. With just six children, it’s humble beginning marked the start of a remarkable journey. From these small beginnings, they embarked on a path of growth, innovation, and dedication to providing exceptional early childhood education.

Gerda (Receptionist and PA)

Meet Gerda, a remarkable woman with a diverse background and a profound commitment to education. At 45 years young, Gerda is a proud mother of two grown children, and her journey is a tapestry woven with experiences and a deep love for children.

Residing in the idyllic Jukskeipark, Gerda shares her life with the love of her life and two adorable canine companions. Her story begins in 1995 when she earned her National Senior Certificate in Business Studies: Secretarial. From there, she embarked on a career in the dynamic world of business, commencing her journey in accounting through Unisa in 1997.

Over the years, Gerda's professional journey has been nothing short of multifaceted. She has worn many hats, including those of a Receptionist, Office Manager, Logistic & Marketing specialist, HR professional, and Financial Manager. Her ability to navigate diverse roles showcases her adaptability and agility within the business realm.

However, it was in 2010 that Gerda's path took a remarkable turn. As a homeschooling parent, she began to see a gap in traditional education. This realization ignited her passion for bridging the divide between traditional teaching and learning styles. Armed with her research and a heart full of love for children, especially those with learning disabilities, Gerda ventured into the educational world.

Gerda's journey led her to become a tutor, mentor, teacher, and a certified life coach and NLP Practitioner. Her approach is marked by patience, a structured system tailored to each learner, and a genuine passion for making a difference in children's lives.

In addition to her dedication to education, Gerda's journey has also taken her into the realm of cultural diversity. With travel experience and a TEFL certificate, she has been teaching English to Vietnamese children, further enriching her global perspective.

At 49 years young, Tina Nienaber brings a wealth of experience and a boundless passion for teaching to the Green Class at our academy. With grown children and grandchildren of her own, Tina has embarked on a remarkable journey in early childhood development.

Tina's career path has been diverse, spanning over two decades in managerial and administrative roles. However, her true calling emerged when she discovered her gift for nurturing the young, especially those with special needs, and caring for the elderly.

Personal experience played a pivotal role in Tina's transformation. Caring for her grandchild born with club feet and battling a severe illness illuminated the significance of focusing on developmental milestones rather than disabilities. This profound insight set the stage for Tina's devotion to helping children and the elderly overcome challenges and realize their potential.

For the past eight years, Tina has poured her heart into caretaking roles, building a reputation as a compassionate and dedicated caregiver. Her commitment to uplifting those in her care has led her to pursue qualifications as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher. It's a testament to her unwavering dedication to providing the highest quality care and education to the children she serves.

Beyond her extensive experience, Tina maintains a thirst for knowledge. She firmly believes that age is no barrier to learning and personal growth. When she's not in the classroom, Tina enjoys quality time with her family, immersing herself in books, and acquiring new skills.

Introducing Stacey-Karin Alves, a dynamic individual at the age of 38, and a devoted mother to two spirited boys, aged 4 and 9. Stacey-Karin's journey into the world of education and child development has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Her venture began with coaching soccer to toddlers at Crawford Primary in Benmore, where she honed her skills in understanding and engaging with young children. This experience, combined with her relentless passion for early childhood development, led her to complete her training in Child-Centred Play Therapy.

With her training in hand, Stacey-Karin has brilliantly managed a classroom bustling with 17 energetic toddlers. Her commitment to creating a nurturing, loving environment is the cornerstone of her teaching philosophy. She believes in allowing toddlers to explore the enchanting realm of their senses and creativity, fostering an atmosphere where they can be their authentic selves.

From Zimbabwe to the Heart of Royal Learning Academy’s Baby Centre

Sarah Budayi's life journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and a passion for growth. Born on the 18th of April 1983 in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, her story is one of overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities.

Raised in Silobela, Sarah faced the world with the guidance of her single mother after her father's untimely passing a few years after her birth. Her early years were shaped by the values of hard work and perseverance instilled by her mother.

Sarah's educational journey began in 1989 when she embarked on her primary school adventure at Ruya Primary School. Her thirst for knowledge continued to shine as she transitioned to Silobela High Secondary School in 1996, where she completed her secondary education in 1999, achieving remarkable results.

In pursuit of new horizons and opportunities, Sarah made a life-changing decision in 2014 when she relocated to South Africa. There, she embarked on a career as a nanny, dedicating herself to the well-being and development of the children she cared for. Her commitment to their safety and growth led her to complete CPR and Child Minding courses in 2015, further enhancing her skills and knowledge.

In 2022, Sarah's journey led her to Royal Learning Academy, where she joined as an assistant teacher. Her dedication and enthusiasm for education shine through in her daily interactions with the learners. She's not just teaching; she's nurturing young minds and inspiring their curiosity.

Sarah's aspirations extend beyond her current role. She looks forward to pursuing an Early Childhood Development (ECD) course, with the dream of becoming a full-time teacher who can shape the futures of many more children.

But Cynthia's dedication to learning didn't stop there. She's a lifelong learner herself, earning a certificate from Alison in an array of crucial subjects. From health and safety to CPR, first aid, elderly care, and mental health studies, Cynthia is equipped with the knowledge to ensure the well-being of her students.

However, it's not just her culinary skills that make Sonia exceptional. To the learners, she's affectionately known as "Vovo," which means Granny in Portuguese.
